Ibrox View: Rangers summer signings rated — Attacker a bargain, 2/10 stinks

Derek Cornelius became the final player through the doors at Ibrox before the transfer deadline struck at 11pm on 1 September, taking Rangers’ tally of new arrivals for the 2025/26 campaign to an impressive thirteen.

 

Alongside that influx of signings, there have been notable departures. Hamza Igamane secured a move to Ligue 1 side Lille, while Cyriel Dessers completed a dramatic late switch to Panathinaikos.

 

Russell Martin has now had the chance to see most of his fresh recruits in action and will be hoping several of them can settle quickly after the international break.

Early impressions of new arrivals

 

One of the standout deals has been the £2.2million signing of Djeidi Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday. Given his explosive start to life in G51, the fee already looks like a bargain.

 

Meanwhile, Lyall Cameron, technically a pre-contract signing, has impressed enough to force his way into Martin’s plans, while Oliver Antman from Go Ahead Eagles is showing early signs of being another shrewd capture thanks to his creativity.

Meghoma, on loan from Brentford, has provided reliable cover at left-back. Fernandez has mainly been a squad option but dependable when called upon.

 

Rothwell began brightly but his form has dipped, with lethargy creeping into recent outings.

Struggles for others

 

Not all of the signings have hit the ground running. Max Aarons, loaned from Bournemouth, has struggled to find form and convince the Ibrox crowd.

 

Nasser Djiga, initially impressive with his composure, has been guilty of costly mistakes in recent weeks. Thelo Aasgaard, only recently back from injury, is yet to make a strong impact.

Mikey Moore, borrowed from Tottenham, is still adjusting to life in Scotland, while Youssef Chermiti, whose fitness issues plagued him at Everton, has yet to deliver.

 

On a more positive note, striker Bojan Miovski looks capable of strengthening the attack.

 

As for Cornelius, his ability to play both centre-back and left-back should make him a vital figure in Martin’s squad moving forward.

 

While there is optimism around several of the new additions, the jury remains out on many of Rangers’ summer signings, and the coming months will prove crucial in determining who truly justifies their place at Ibrox.
