Rangers Set Sights on a Major Summer Overhaul at Ibrox
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are working to finalize their takeover of Rangers as soon as possible, with significant changes on the horizon in Glasgow.
Barry Ferguson is currently on an interim contract as the manager of the Auchenhowie club, but that could soon change in the coming weeks at Ibrox.
Major Changes Coming for Rangers
Football finance expert Dan Plumley has suggested that, although he doesn’t want to cause unnecessary panic among fans, several transfers could lead to another significant squad overhaul at Rangers.
Plumley believes that after another underwhelming season, there could be considerable movement both on and off the pitch, driven by Cavenagh and the 49ers.
“I think potentially, yes,” Plumley told Ibrox News when asked about the likelihood of a busy summer transfer window.
“But it’s important to temper expectations, because making such statements could stir up a frenzy among fans.”
He continued, “If we assume that a takeover is completed, and considering the season Rangers have had, which hasn’t met the expectations, it’s likely there will be a churn in the squad.
New people will come in with fresh ideas and plans for the future, so we could see a fair amount of activity at Rangers this summer as they plan ahead for the new season.”
Nils Koppen Under Scrutiny
While Rangers have made some positive signings in recent times, such as Hamza Igamane, Mohamed Diomande, and Nicolas Raskin, the scrutiny on Nils Koppen could increase if another disappointing season follows.
While successful transfers are important for future profit, they hold little value if the team fails to win the silverware that a club like Rangers demands.
In contrast, Celtic have struggled in their own right this season, including losing two Old Firm derbies, but they remain 15 points ahead and are on track to secure another Scottish Premiership title.
This level of underachievement is not acceptable, and there’s a growing urgency for change, starting this summer, with a focus on smart business moves rather than another wasted opportunity.
