Journalist reports Everton trio likely to depart in the summer

Graeme Bailey reports that Seamus Coleman, Ashley Young, and Michael Keane are all expected to depart Everton this summer.

A TBR journalist shared with Everton News that the club, under new ownership and with a move to a new stadium on the horizon, likely has bigger ambitions than retaining their current defensive trio.

Ashley Young, Seamus Coleman, and Michael Keane each have contracts expiring this summer and are not expected to remain with Everton next season.

“I think Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman will go at the end of the season,” journalist Bailey stated. “As for Keane, I imagine Everton hopes to upgrade.

He’s on decent money, and I don’t think they’re eager to renew his contract. They probably have loftier aspirations than Keane, Young, and Coleman. I’d be surprised if those three are still around.”

Everton’s shift toward a younger squad signals a commitment to refreshing the team as they enter a new era.

While Coleman’s leadership and legacy are valued, his age and injury history make him less dependable for consistent play.

Similarly, Young, now 39, was more of a stopgap solution than a long-term asset, making a younger replacement a priority.

Keane, meanwhile, has faced challenges with inconsistent performances and defensive struggles, often positioning him as a backup option under Sean Dyche.

His relatively high salary, paired with the need for defensive improvements, adds to the case for his departure.

As the club aims to realign with its vision for a competitive future, moving away from the aging “old guard” allows Everton to invest in players with greater potential and who align better with the club’s evolving identity.

This approach not only strengthens the squad but also reflects a more ambitious strategy as Everton prepares to enter a newchapter.
