Leeds Reportedly Bid for Promising Player Recently Called Up to England Training by Gareth Southgate

Leeds United Set for Busy Transfer Window, Aiming to Invest Funds from Crysencio Summerville's Move to West Ham

Leeds United are expected to strengthen their squad by adding more cover at left-back or full-back, as well as signing a midfielder and a replacement for Summerville following his £25m move.

The 49ers are working hard behind the scenes to bring in new signings as Daniel Farke focuses on on-field matters with the season underway. Leeds drew 3-3 with Portsmouth on Saturday.

One player Leeds have been linked with over the weekend is Chelsea’s Bashir Humphreys. The 21-year-old is expected to leave Stamford Bridge either on loan or permanently this summer.

Leeds Table Bid for Chelsea’s Bashir Humphreys

England U21 defender Humphreys has only played twice for Chelsea’s first team but made 27 appearances for Swansea on loan last season before an injury saw him lose his place.

Fabrizio Romano initially reported that Leeds and Burnley were interested in Humphreys, before confirming that Leeds had made a bid for the defender, who has three caps for Lee Carsley’s England U21s.

It is unclear how Chelsea have responded to the bid, but given the revolving door at Stamford Bridge in recent seasons, Humphreys is likely to find himself on the way out in the coming weeks.

Southgate Called Humphreys Up to England Training

It is common for Southgate and other national team managers to include U21 players in senior training when a first-team star is injured. Humphreys benefitted from this at the start of the 2023-24 season.

Ahead of games against Ukraine and Scotland in September 2023, Southgate called up Humphreys, Alfie Devine, and Lewis Hall to first-team training, according to The Athletic.

Humphreys is clearly a player of immense potential who needs to find the right environment to thrive.

Whether Leeds is the right place for him remains to be seen, given The Whites are well-stocked in central defense.
