“6 Clearances, 2 Interceptions, 96% Passing: United Star’s All-Round Defensive Performance Crucial to Clean Sheet Against Everton”

"Lisandro Martinez Played Crucial Role in Manchester United’s Clean Sheet Against Everton"

Manchester United handed Ruben Amorim his first clean sheet as they cruised to a commanding 4-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

This was United’s strongest defensive performance since Amorim’s arrival, with Lisandro Martinez playing a pivotal role in the backline.

The Argentine defender excelled on the left side of Amorim’s preferred back three, partnering Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Martinez was a standout performer, making six clearances—three times more than any other United player and double that of Everton’s James Tarkowski.

He also contributed two interceptions, effectively neutralizing the Toffees’ attacking efforts.

In addition to his defensive contributions, Martinez showcased his composure on the ball, embodying Amorim’s build-from-the-back philosophy.

He recorded 100 touches—more than any other player on the pitch—and completed 90 passes with an impressive 96% accuracy, underlining his influence on United’s possession-based approach.

However, his performance was slightly marred by a yellow card for a heavy tackle, which rules him out of United’s next match—a challenging trip to face high-flying Arsenal in London.

Harry Maguire, who replaced De Ligt in the second half, could be in line to start at the Emirates in Martinez’s absence.

The emphatic win over Everton propels United into the top half of the Premier League table, narrowing the gap to fourth-placed Brighton to just four points.
