While the result denied the Hammers a vital victory in their fight for Premier League survival, Axel Disasi produced a performance that deserved far more than a share of the spoils.

He appeared on course for consecutive clean sheets until Sesko’s late intervention changed the complexion of the match.

The numbers underline just how influential he was. According to Sofascore, Disasi recorded an impressive 86 per cent passing accuracy despite United’s aggressive press, while also registering eight key defensive actions.

Yet statistics only tell part of the story. Anyone inside the stadium could see his composure, positioning, and leadership throughout the encounter.

His modest 6.5 rating was heavily impacted by the last-gasp equaliser, which masked what had otherwise been a man-of-the-match performance.

While much of the winter spotlight fell on attacking reinforcements, Disasi’s arrival may prove even more significant.

Taty Castellanos opened his account against Burnley and will shoulder major responsibility in front of goal for the remainder of the campaign, particularly given his sizeable transfer fee.

Pablo, too, is expected to contribute offensively, though injuries have disrupted his momentum.

Interestingly, West Ham have been among the league’s most prolific sides in the opening 15 minutes of matches this season, as per Sofascore data.

Their problems, however, have largely stemmed from defensive fragility — an issue Disasi has already begun to address.

Signed on loan from Chelsea for just £1.6 million, the centre-back could turn out to be one of the shrewdest pieces of business sanctioned by David Sullivan.
