Steve Cooper Outlines Leicester City’s Transfer Strategy After Missing Out on ‘Certain’ Signings

Leicester City came close to finalizing two attacking signings last week, with manager Steve Cooper “certain” that both deals would be completed, only for them to fall through.

Cooper has consistently emphasized the need for more attacking options, and the club pursued players like Fotis Ioannidis, Wilfried Zaha, and Adam Hlozek.

Hlozek, a Czech striker, seemed set to join Leicester until Hoffenheim intervened.

This week, Leicester started by strengthening their midfield, signing Oli Skipp from Tottenham for £20 million.

However, this move does not shift the club’s focus away from acquiring attacking players.

Cooper is hopeful that additional signings will be made before Leicester’s first away game of the season at Fulham on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

“There’s no specific order,” Cooper explained. “I’ve been clear with the club about what the team needed even before I took the job, and that hasn’t changed.

We were very close to securing two attacking players last week, and I was confident it would happen.

There’s no set sequence for how these players come in or their positions.

“We aim to enhance depth in certain areas where we are currently lacking.

We intend to bring in more players before the window closes, ideally before our match against Fulham, especially in the attacking positions, to increase variety and depth.”

Oli Skipp, who watched from the stands alongside his new teammates on Monday, is expected to make his debut at Craven Cottage.

He will compete for a spot in the midfield with Harry Winks, Wilfred Ndidi, Boubakary Soumare, and Hamza Choudhury.

“It’s great to have signed him,” Cooper said. “We want to build on last year’s success, which was remarkable.

To do that, we need to strengthen the team and squad.

“Oli brings us added strength and a different profile in midfield.

The league is demanding, and we need a competitive starting team and effective changes.

With five substitutes now, the impact of those changes is crucial.”
