BBC Pundit Suggests Possible Replacement for Dyche Amid Everton Sack Speculation

Speaking on the BBC’s Football Daily podcast (15 September), Nigel Reo-Coker commented on the increasing pressure on Everton manager Sean Dyche after four consecutive Premier League losses to start the season.

The Toffees squandered a 2-0 lead, suffering a late 3-2 defeat for the second consecutive match, this time against Aston Villa, leaving them at the bottom of the table.

Reo-Coker suggested former Everton boss David Moyes as a potential replacement for Dyche.

He said: “When you look at what’s happening now – yes, Sean Dyche is there – but Everton have been trending this way for quite some time.

I’m not putting it out there, but there is a certain David Moyes who knows that club inside out and currently isn’t managing anyone.

The pressure is mounting on Sean Dyche, and Everton might consider a managerial change to bring in fresh ideas or a new start.”

While Dyche isn’t immediately on the verge of being sacked, more second-half collapses, like those against Bournemouth and Villa, could lead to his departure.

If the Everton board, which could complicate the decision-making process, opts to part ways with Dyche, they may need to head in a completely different direction.

Although Moyes is familiar with the club, his style of play is quite similar to Dyche’s.

Moreover, Moyes’ defensive record at West Ham last season—74 goals conceded, the fourth-most in the Premier League—should raise concerns for those advocating for his return.

By contrast, Everton conceded 51 goals last season, the fourth-best defensive record despite their struggles.

Given Moyes is unlikely to bring significant improvement compared to what Dyche is currently doing, it’s more probable that Everton will wait for new ownership—potentially under John Textor—before making a decision on Dyche’s future .
