Championship rivals Leeds United and Cardiff City united to honor former defender Sol Bamba before their match in South Wales.
Bamba, who bravely battled non-Hodgkin lymphoma and was in remission by 2021, tragically passed away last month at the age of 39.
At the time of his passing, Bamba had been serving as technical director for Turkish club Adanaspor.
During his career, Bamba made a significant impact at both Leeds and Cardiff, playing 56 times for Leeds and 118 times for Cardiff.
Ahead of their Championship clash, both clubs came together to pay tribute to the beloved defender.
As part of the tribute, fans from both teams united with a heartfelt chant of “there’s only one Sol Bamba” as career highlights were displayed on the stadium’s big screen.
A touching moment followed as flowers were placed in the center circle, and a minute’s applause was observed before kick-off, with both sets of fans continuing to chant Bamba’s name.
To further honor his memory, another minute’s applause was held in the 14th minute of the game, symbolizing the shirt number Bamba wore during his playing career.
