Leeds are eager to avoid that situation. According to Football Insider, the club is “keen” to initiate new contract talks with the 26-year-old, seeking to extend his stay at Elland Road for the long term.
The club faces the risk of losing James next year if they fail to secure a new deal, and they are eager to prevent that outcome.
James has played 89 matches across all competitions, tallying 18 goals and 12 assists.
Since joining Leeds in 2021, James has made three appearances this season but has missed the last three league games due to a hamstring injury.
It remains to be seen whether James will agree to a long-term extension, especially if Leeds remain in the Championship for a third consecutive season, which could influence his decision.
