Ex-Leeds Manager Highlights Key Issue Hindering Farke’s Attacking Strategy

Leeds United struggled to secure a convincing win against a Cardiff City side reduced to 10 men for most of the match.

It wasn’t until the 87th minute that substitute Joël Piroe scored an insurance goal, sealing the 2-0 victory.

However, the match highlighted Leeds’ difficulty in breaking down their opponents, despite their advantage.

Simon Grayson Highlights Leeds’ Need for Attacking Improvement

Former Leeds manager Simon Grayson has pointed out that the team still lacks the creativity and ruthlessness needed to dominate in the final third.

Although Brenden Aaronson has returned from his loan spell at Union Berlin and made an early impact, Grayson believes the team still requires a true No. 10 to pull the strings in midfield.

Grayson emphasized the need for Leeds to have a playmaker during the summer transfer window and continues to hold that view.

He noted the team’s inability to capitalize on their chances and finish off games.

“Before the transfer window closed, I said Leeds needed a creative No. 10 to dictate play in midfield,” Grayson told The Football League Paper.

“I still think that’s the case, even just to add competition for places. There’s enough quality in that squad to push for promotion.”

He continued, “What they really need is composure and ruthlessness in the final third. They dominate possession and create chances, but often try to score the perfect goal.

They haven’t scored from outside the box or from a set-piece in months. You don’t always need to walk the ball into the net.”

With the January transfer window approaching, Leeds will likely look to address this issue. Finding a No. 10 could be the key to their promotion hopes this season.
