Leeds in Doubt: Four Key Players Questionable for Tuesday’s Showdown Against Norwich City
Leeds United secured a commanding 3-0 win over Coventry City, but the victory was overshadowed by their captain's injury midway through the match.
Despite Daniel Farke and his team celebrating their second consecutive win, not all the news was positive.
Just before halftime, with Leeds leading by a goal, Ethan Ampadu had to leave the game due to an injury.
While there were initial concerns during the BBC broadcast that Ampadu might have sustained an ACL injury, journalist Adam Pope suggested it may not be as serious, given the player’s mood after the game.
“Farke was very pleased with the finishing, speed of passing, and defensive solidity when out of possession,” Pope wrote on X.
“Ampadu has a knee injury and is in pain, but was positive after the game. He’s our most important player. We have to wait for the assessment.”
Leeds players doubtful for Norwich match
Even though Ampadu appeared in good spirits, he is likely to miss the match against Norwich City due to the short turnaround for the game on Tuesday at Carrow Road.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Lee Sobot, four Leeds players are doubtful for the upcoming match, adding to the team’s injury concerns.
Along with Ampadu, Manor Solomon, Dan James, and Max Wober are all in doubt as Leeds pushes to climb closer to the Championship’s top two spots.
With two key attackers potentially sidelined, Farke may need to adjust his starting lineup.
Former Leeds midfielder David Norris believes Joel Piroe is ready to step up and secure a spot in the starting 11, particularly with matches coming thick and fast.
The 25-year-old forward has scored three goals as a substitute in his last four games, although he has only started once in the Championship this season.
However, this could soon change as Leeds prepares for a busy week with games against Norwich City and Sunderland.
“It’s something I’ve talked about a lot as Piroe continues to deliver as a super sub,” Norris told MOT Leeds News.
“He’s a consistent finisher and one of the team’s main goal threats. I believe he’ll eventually get regular game time and convert the chances Leeds create.”
