Sky Sports journalist issues new transfer warning to Leeds following Thorp Arch developments.

Leeds United have been linked with signing a short-term midfield replacement to cover for injured players.

Cheikhou Kouyate has been training at Thorp Arch for several days, but the potential transfer remains uncertain as of October 12, according to Adam Pope.

Despite these reports, Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Alex Bardell has suggested that Leeds would be better off promoting from within rather than opting for a free agent.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell commented, “They’re a bit short at the moment, and injuries have added to that.

But I never think it’s wise to sign a player just for the sake of it.

Leeds have a thriving academy, and I believe fans would prefer to see them use that rather than make a short-term signing.”

Bardell added, “I’d be cautious about entering the free agent market when they have options within the academy. They’re better off focusing on what they already have.”

Leeds United are facing a challenging time under Daniel Farke, having lost their two starting midfielders in consecutive games.

While they have potential replacements for Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, no one can match their consistency and quality.

Summer signings Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka have temporarily filled the gap, but any further injuries could significantly impact Leeds’ promotion hopes.

Instead of rushing into a free agent deal for Kouyate, Farke might consider giving more opportunities to academy talent, such as Charlie Crew, before making a decision.
