“A Really Poor Decision” – BBC Pundit Claims Referee Anthony Taylor Made an Error in Southampton vs Leicester City Match

Leicester City staged a thrilling comeback to win 3-2 after being two goals down in a five-goal contest.

Cameron Archer put Southampton ahead within the first 10 minutes, and Joe Aribo doubled the lead just before the 30-minute mark.

However, in the second half, Facundo Buonanotte pulled one back for Leicester.

The game took a dramatic turn when Ryan Fraser fouled Jamie Vardy in the box, with the VAR deeming it a denial of a goal-scoring opportunity.

Fraser was sent off, and Vardy, who could retire at the end of the season, confidently converted the penalty, leveling the score at 2-2.

Leicester’s comeback was complete in the dying moments, as Jordan Ayew netted the winner in the 98th minute, sealing the victory for the Foxes.

Alan Shearer was critical of referee Anthony Taylor’s officiating during the match.

Shearer argued that Southampton should have been awarded a penalty in a separate incident involving Paul Onuachu.

Onuachu appeared to be held by a Leicester player for several seconds, but no penalty was given.

Speaking on “Match of the Day,” Shearer said, “Absolutely…the word we’re hearing is Anthony Taylor saw the holding, but it was with no consequence.”

Shearer continued, “He’s got hold of him for about five seconds, which means he has to be impacting play.

If he’s not holding him, there’s every chance he’s going to challenge for that ball, he may even get there before the keeper. I think that’s a really poor decision by the referee and VAR.”

Meanwhile, Southampton’s poor start to the season has left manager Russell Martin’s future in doubt.

The Saints have yet to win a game, having lost seven and drawn one, leaving them 19th in the table with just a single point.

Speculation about Martin’s future is growing, with several managers, including former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter, being linked to the Southampton job amid mounting pressure.
