talkSPORT broadcaster highlights ‘obvious’ concerns as questions arise over Tim Steidten at West Ham

According to talkSPORT (22 October), West Ham United are exploring the transfer market for a new striker following concerns over their recent signing, Niclas Füllkrug.

The Hammers spent £27 million on the German striker, but his signing has come under scrutiny, especially after his Achilles injury during the international break in September.

Füllkrug has only made four appearances and hasn’t featured for West Ham since their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in August.

Reacting to the news, talkSPORT’s Tom Rennie posted on X (22 October), “Injury-prone, 32-year-old striker who doesn’t fit the system at all. It was pretty obvious, to be fair.”

Concerns have arisen at West Ham about the decision to invest so heavily in Füllkrug, particularly given his age and injury history.

Although he had a strong showing at Euro 2024 and contributed 12 goals and 8 assists in the Bundesliga last season for Borussia Dortmund, his recurring injury problems have been a constant issue throughout his career, affecting his time with Hannover, Werder Bremen, and the German national team.

West Ham’s attacking options are currently limited, with only Michail Antonio and Danny Ings available to manager Julen Lopetegui.

This shortage of firepower has contributed to the team’s struggles in front of goal.

While West Ham Zone reports that frustrations with technical director Tim Steidten at the London Stadium are not as severe as suggested, the situation is growing tense as West Ham continues to underperform on the pitch.
