Pundit backs Farke to give Leeds star his first Championship start of the season against Bristol City

Tony Dorigo supports Daniel Farke's decision to start Sam Byram over Isaac Schmidt for Leeds United's match against Bristol City.

Leeds United head to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City on Saturday (26 October), aiming to extend their unbeaten streak in the Championship to seven matches.

Leeds will be without Junior Firpo, suspended after accumulating five yellow cards this season.

LUTV pundit Tony Dorigo expects manager Daniel Farke to start Sam Byram in Firpo’s place rather than selecting Leo Hjelde or Schmidt.

Discussing the options on The Square Ball (25 October), Dan Moylan asked, “With Firpo out, does Farke go with Schmidt, or is it Sam Byram?”

Dorigo replied humorously, “I don’t want to spill too much, but I told Daniel I was available, and he laughed it off.” He then added, “This is why you build a squad.

I think Byram will step in and do the job.”

The absence of Firpo presents a challenge for Leeds, as he provides a unique attacking threat on the left wing that few fullbacks can match.

In recent games, Firpo linked well with Largie Ramazani, putting opponents under significant pressure down the left flank.

However, Byram, a more defensive option, may not bring the same attacking flair.

Although Schmidt’s minutes have been limited this season, he has shown energy and promise off the bench.

Farke has solid alternatives in both Byram and Schmidt, leaving him well-equipped to adapt against Bristol City.
