Will Ruben Amorim be managing Manchester United against Leicester City?

Leicester City's opponents may have a new manager appointed by their game on Wednesday.

David Ornstein reports that Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has verbally agreed to a deal with Manchester United to succeed Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed on Monday.

Steve Cooper’s squad will travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday for a Carabao Cup fourth-round clash against United.

Although Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as interim manager, he may not get the opportunity to lead the team from the dugout if Amorim’s appointment proceeds quickly.

Addressing the speculation during a press conference, the 39-year-old Amorim remained reserved, stating, “I expected this question but won’t discuss the future.

I’m very proud to be Sporting’s coach, that’s all.”

Amorim is regarded as one of football’s most promising managers, with an impressive 71% win rate, and led Sporting to their first domestic title in 19 years, achieving the milestone undefeated.

LISBON, PORTUGAL – SEPTEMBER 17: Head Coach Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 match between Sporting Clube de Portugal and LOSC Lille at Estadio Jose Alvalade on September 17, 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal.

As for United’s upcoming match against Leicester, Amorim’s official announcement could come before the Foxes visit Old Trafford.

However, with limited time between any formal announcement and the 7:45 PM GMT kick-off, it’s unlikely Amorim will manage the game.

Instead, he would likely watch from the stands while Van Nistelrooy handles team duties.
