Opinion: Steidten’s interest likely reignited after last night’s performance by West Ham’s summer target

The striker, positioned well outside the 18-yard box, delivered an almost perfect shot that sent the ball soaring into the top-left corner of the net—practically impossible to stop.

When it comes to forwards at the London Stadium, it feels as if West Ham United are cursed.

Over the summer, the club made a big signing with Niclas Fullkrug, but he has spent much of his time on the sidelines due to injury.

This situation has left manager Julen Lopetegui with limited options up front, relying mainly on Michail Antonio and Danny Ings.

Unfortunately, their recent performances have been underwhelming, with the pair managing just two goals between them this season.

Throughout the summer, several strikers were rumored to be linked with a move to West Ham, including Omar Marmoush, yet no deals materialized.

Now, with Fullkrug sidelined once more, it seems increasingly necessary for the Hammers to pursue a new number nine in the January transfer window, and Marmoush could be a strong candidate.

Why Omar Marmoush would be an excellent addition for West Ham United Technical director Tim Steidten led an active recruitment campaign over the summer, but the results have been mixed.

Given Marmoush’s recent performance, however, Steidten’s interest should certainly be sparked.

The 25-year-old Egyptian striker is still in the early stages of his career and, notably, has a good injury record, which could provide much-needed stability up front.

Although other Premier League teams, including Liverpool, have shown interest in Marmoush since West Ham’s initial approach in the summer, Lopetegui could offer the forward a central role in the squad, allowing him to be at the heart of the team’s attack and West Ham’s overall rebuilding strategy.

Marmoush has been in impressive form this season, scoring 13 goals in just 15 games, along with providing nine assists, underlining his importance to the Frankfurt side.

One potential obstacle in negotiations is the substantial transfer fee. Frankfurt is expected to demand between £41.57 million and £49.89 million, which may be challenging for West Ham to meet after their summer spending spree.

However, if they can find the funds, Marmoush could elevate the team’s starting lineup significantly and potentially turn around their season, especially if he brings his Bundesliga form with him.

In essence, Marmoush’s proven goal-scoring ability, coupled with his age and injury-free history, makes him an attractive option for West Ham.

With Fullkrug’s injury struggles and the underwhelming performance of Antonio and Ings, adding a high-caliber striker like Marmoush could provide the offensive firepower West Ham desperately needs to achieve a successful campaign.
