TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent believes that Potter’s exit from Chelsea may be a factor in him not finding a new role yet.
However, Bent is eager to see him back in Premier League management soon. Speaking on TalkSPORT on Friday, November 8, he said, “I’d have liked to see Potter go there [West Ham]. I’m a big fan of Potter even now.
Although he’s been out of management for a while, I liked what he did at Brighton and even thought he had potential at Chelsea, despite his early sacking.”
Bent continued, praising Potter’s qualities as a coach and leader. “I think he’s a good coach,” he said.
“He conducts himself well, speaks intelligently, and his continued unemployment is probably just down to the payoff situation from Chelsea. I want to see him back in the dugout because he’s such a good coach.”
The question remains: will West Ham consider sacking Lopetegui amid these struggles? It’s surprising that the club did not move for Potter in the summer when they parted ways with David Moyes, as Potter seemed to align with the shift in playing style many fans were hoping for.
Known for his possession-based, attacking approach, Potter’s style stands in contrast to Moyes’ more conservative tactics.
Instead, West Ham’s recruitment team, led by Tim Steidten, opted for Lopetegui—a manager with a style more similar to Moyes.
So far, this choice hasn’t yielded the success the Hammers were aiming for.
However, since Potter remains unattached, the club could still revisit the idea of bringing him on if they decide on a change.
With Thomas Tuchel now occupying the England manager role, Potter may find the opportunity at West Ham appealing.
