Journalist talks with international manager as Leeds star prepares to earn milestone cap during break

On 11 November, The Sun journalist Phil Cadden shared on X his conversation with Craig Bellamy about Joe Rodon’s journey in the Wales squad since his debut in 2019.

Rodon is set to earn his milestone Welsh cap against Iceland on 19 November, now a fixture in Daniel Farke’s side.

Bellamy expressed his longstanding interest in managing Rodon, dating back to 2018.

“I’ve always been impressed by him. When he went to Spurs, I was planning to go to Oxford and wanted him on loan,” Bellamy said.

“The number of caps he’s won for Wales at such a young age is impressive.”

Joe Rodon’s Rise and Leeds United’s Admiration

Rodon’s career progress, especially in a Leeds United jersey, has impressed many and will come as no surprise to those watching his performances in the Championship over the last two seasons.

Last season, Rodon made 50 appearances across all competitions, forming a solid defensive partnership with teammates Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu, and he’s continued in a similar vein this season.

Leeds currently boasts the Championship’s best goal difference and third-best defense, thanks in part to the formidable defensive pair of Struijk and Rodon, as Rodon’s career reaches new heights.

Both Wales and Leeds have greatly benefited from Rodon and Ampadu’s stability after permanent moves to Elland Road following loan spells from Tottenham and Chelsea.

While Ampadu recently celebrated his 50th cap and has taken on leadership roles for club and country, Rodon is poised to cement his legacy with Wales and continue his impressive run for Leeds.
