“‘Happily’ – Former West Ham boss open to return as pressure on Lopetegui mounts”
Alan Pardew says he’d “happily” return for a second stint at West Ham United to replace Julen Lopetegui.
The future of West Ham’s manager, Julen Lopetegui, appears increasingly uncertain after a goalless draw against Everton on 9 November, which added to the pressure for a change in leadership at the club.
On talkSPORT (10 November, 8:42 pm), Alan Pardew discussed Lopetegui’s situation and expressed interest in returning to West Ham himself, saying, “I’d happily go back.”
Potential Candidates to Replace Lopetegui at West Ham
While Pardew would be open to a return, his candidacy is unlikely to gain support, as West Ham fans are eager for a fresh approach and more attacking football.
Pardew previously managed the team from 2003 to 2006, with mixed results.
He led them to the Championship play-off final, achieved promotion the following season, and later took them to the famous 2006 FA Cup final, only to lose in a heartbreaking penalty shootout to Liverpool.
Pardew is reportedly not a candidate for West Ham’s ownership, led by David Sullivan, should they seek a new manager.
Instead, other prominent names have emerged, including Jose Mourinho, who recently expressed interest in returning to London after his stint with Fenerbahce.
Mourinho might see West Ham as an appealing option.
Another contender is Brentford’s Thomas Frank, who could take what’s seen as the “obvious” step up from Brentford to West Ham.
Additionally, former Porto manager Sergio Conceicao has resurfaced as an option after previously being considered for the role before David Moyes’ tenure.
Sullivan faces a critical decision on any potential new manager, given the substantial investment made to support Lopetegui this past summer.
Despite backing him, the team’s performance has fallen short, and Lopetegui’s future is at risk if results don’t improve soon.
He is expected to remain in charge through the international break, giving him one last opportunity to establish a consistent run of form in the Premier League.
With only three wins in 11 matches this season, Lopetegui may be on borrowed time, and he could face a departure from East London by the New Year if the team’s form does not improve.
