Pundit makes “huge” revelation about Leeds star amid squad depth concerns
David Norris admits he once doubted a young Sam Byram, but now sees him as a vital squad player for Leeds United.
Norris and Byram were teammates when the latter was emerging in 2012, with Byram now in his second stint at Elland Road.
The former Leeds midfielder, speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, confessed he initially had doubts about Byram’s potential progress.
Now, Byram has started three of the last four games, covering gaps left by injury and suspension. Norris believes having such a versatile player in Daniel Farke’s squad is “huge.”
“Sam Byram is a fantastic player. When I was at Leeds, he was just coming up—very young-looking and slim—and I honestly wondered how far he’d go. But he was always fit, skilled, and had a sharp football brain,” Norris said.
“There’s been talk about the squad’s depth. I, too, expected a few more signings. So, having a player like him who can step in and cover various positions is hugely important.
“If he’s going to be needed, his adaptability will be a big asset wherever Daniel Farke places him.”
Leeds United managing limited squad depth
Leeds United wrapped up the summer transfer window with the Championship’s smallest first-team squad.
Despite this, they’ve handled injury and suspension issues by relying on players like Byram.
The recent signing of Josuha Guilavogui outside the transfer window brought the squad count to 24, although Farke still deals with several absences.
Before his recent starts, Byram had only accumulated 49 league minutes from August through late October, highlighting his growing role in response to the team’scurrent needs.
