Ange Postecoglou, now well into his second season at Tottenham, is feeling the pressure.
A growing number of fans are beginning to lose confidence in his ability to turn Spurs into a consistently competitive team.
The 59-year-old manager has made no secret of his desire to challenge the Premier League’s best, even stating that he would consider this season a failure if Tottenham fails to secure silverware (Daily Mail).
Postecoglou is being evaluated based on the high expectations he has set for himself, and unless results improve soon, the discontent among fans will only intensify.
Alan Pardew, reflecting on the situation, noted that he has never seen the Tottenham boss as downhearted as he was after the team’s loss to Ipswich.
He emphasized that unless things drastically change at Spurs, they could be heading for a “mediocre season.”
Speaking to talkSPORT, Pardew remarked, “I watched Ange’s interview after the game, and he looked crestfallen.
I’ve never seen him like that, and it’s a concern because we’re only 11 games into the season.
“The issue with Spurs is that we seem to be repeating the same mistakes from last year. Ange is reluctant to change his approach, and here we are again.
With just 11 games played, the team remains inconsistent, still playing with that high defensive line, and it’s worrying.
Looking at the stats – five wins, five losses, one draw, 23 goals for, and 13 against – it all points to a very mediocre season.”
Pardew also questioned Tottenham’s recruitment strategy, suggesting Postecoglou has not been given the necessary resources to succeed.
He continued, “At the start of the season, I said Tottenham’s transfer strategy didn’t seem geared towards winning the league.
It looked more like a team trying to rebuild with younger players, hoping to strike gold with a few hidden gems.”
Offering advice to Postecoglou, the 63-year-old former manager stressed the importance of maintaining positive body language in difficult times.
Pardew added, “When things aren’t going well, it’s not ideal for a manager to appear downcast.
You need to project confidence, acknowledging the issues, but also reassuring fans that the team will bounce back next time.”
If things do not improve soon, Postecoglou may find the growing pressure difficult to manage, as the expectations around him continue to rise.
