“Terrible” – Sky Sports Pundit Slams West Ham Defender’s Error Against Newcastle

Andy Hinchcliffe Criticizes Jean-Clair Todibo's Costly Error in West Ham's Win Over Newcastle

Jean-Clair Todibo’s misstep nearly cost West Ham a goal against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. While leading 1-0, Todibo mishandled a clearance, allowing Anthony Gordon an opportunity.

However, Lukasz Fabianski managed to prevent Gordon from scoring.

Todibo, who was a summer transfer target for Newcastle before joining West Ham, left the match injured in the 55th minute. Despite his early exit, the Hammers secured a 2-0 victory.

Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe, commenting during the match, criticized Todibo’s error: “Anthony Gordon should be scoring – if he lifts it over the goalkeeper, it’s 1-1. Terrible defending from Todibo.

How quickly a game can get away from you when you make a mistake, and it should’ve been capitalised on. Really poor clearance.”

The French defender has struggled to find his footing since arriving at West Ham on loan from Nice, with a £34 million permanent deal set to activate at the season’s end.

Despite the slip-up, Todibo performed reasonably well for the remainder of his time on the pitch, contributing to West Ham’s defensive efforts against a potent Newcastle attack.

His replacement, Konstantinos Mavropanos, has displayed flashes of talent but has yet to demonstrate consistency.

Addressing defensive stability remains a key task for manager Julen Lopetegui and his staff.

Although the victory against Newcastle was a morale boost, the team must maintain momentum, especially with a challenging fixture against Arsenal looming.
