Leicester Boss Explains Halftime Substitution of Experienced Starter

Van Nistelrooy defended his decision to start Danny Ward, despite the goalkeeper being one of two players jeered by fans.

However, poor performances across the team led the Leicester boss to make two halftime substitutions in an effort to halt the decline.

One of the players replaced was Jannik Vestergaard, who made way for Wout Faes.

Vestergaard has started every game under Van Nistelrooy but has now been substituted in at least three of them.

Alongside him, Oliver Skipp was also withdrawn at halftime, with Harry Winks taking his place.

Van Nistelrooy clarified that Vestergaard’s substitution was not tactical but due to illness.

“He didn’t feel well at halftime,” the manager explained, adding that it was nothing serious.

Defensive issues have plagued Leicester all season, with the team conceding 14 goals in their last five games, including seven in the past two fixtures.

Former defender Robert Huth highlighted this worrying statistic, emphasizing the urgent need for improvement at the back.

Without Mads Hermansen, who has been one of the league’s standout goalkeepers, Leicester’s situation could be even worse.

As the January transfer window approaches, bolstering the defense has become a top priority.

The club reportedly has a central defender on its shopping list, but financial constraints may force them to seek budget-friendly options.

Despite significant spending on defensive reinforcements in the past, Leicester must find effective solutions to solidify their backline and improve their chances of survival.
