Sky Sports Pundit Responds to Controversial First-Half Incident in Everton vs. Nottingham Forest Match

In the opening minutes of Sunday’s fixture (29 December), Everton center-back James Tarkowski received a yellow card after overrunning the ball and fouling Ramon Sosa at Goodison Park.

Former player Craig Dawson agreed with the referee’s decision not to issue a red card, considering the yellow sufficient as Everton aimed to secure a win against Nottingham Forest.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (29 December), Dawson, 41, said: “Everton could’ve had a red card. It wouldn’t have been the right decision, in my opinion.

Tarkowski is bringing the ball out and then goes straight through Sosa. It was a yellow card.”

James Tarkowski’s Struggles Against Nottingham Forest

Tarkowski has not been at his best for the Toffees against Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest side.

The defender risks a second booking after his clumsy challenge, and manager Sean Dyche can’t afford to play with 10 men in such a crucial match.

Currently, Everton sit 15th in the Premier League table, uncomfortably close to the relegation zone.

While recent strong performances against Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City have offered hope, Nottingham Forest, sitting in the top four, are proving formidable this season.

Chris Wood opened the scoring for Forest in the 15th minute, slipping past Tarkowski with ease during the build-up.

Dyche may need to consider making changes in the second half, with options like Michael Keane and Jake O’Brien available on the bench.

Keeping all 11 players on the pitch and tightening up defensively will be essential if Everton are to avoid slipping furtherinto trouble.
