According to a report from The Sun, Newcastle’s leadership is considering selling Kieran Trippier mid-season.
The club’s owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), want to refresh the squad while adhering to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Trippier, who is 34 years old and earns £200,000 per week, is seen as expendable.
Currently, Tino Livramento is Newcastle’s first-choice right-back, and Trippier, who is under contract until 2026, has started just five Premier League games this season.
Although manager Eddie Howe considers Trippier a backup option, he reportedly prefers to retain the experienced defender.
However, PIF is determined to sell him this month, with several European clubs showing interest.
Despite being past his peak, Newcastle should resist selling Trippier in January.
The club is still in the race for a top-four finish, just three points behind Chelsea.
Trippier’s experience could prove invaluable in key matches over the coming months.
With 190 Premier League appearances to his name, including six goals, 35 assists, and 47 clean sheets, Trippier remains a reliable contributor.
