Martin Dubravka Set for ‘Final Game’ at Newcastle United

Martin Dubravka’s transfer to Al-Shabab has reportedly been approved by the Saudi Pro League, according to new claims from the Middle East.

The Slovakian international delivered an impressive performance in Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, making several crucial saves.

However, reports from Riyadh suggest that the Saudi Pro League’s Financial Sustainability Committee has given the green light for the deal to proceed.

Newcastle are said to have requested to keep Dubravka for one more match, allowing him to play in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final before finalizing his move.

With no new contract offer from the Magpies, manager Eddie Howe indicated that the decision to remain until the end of the season was ultimately Dubravka’s.

His current contract is set to expire this summer.

Speaking last month, Dubravka reflected on his situation, stating: “Nobody has spoken to me about a contract extension yet, so I feel my phase is slowly coming to an end.

I’ll take it more emotionally because seven years at one club is a long time.

Everyone here knows me, I know everyone here, and my children were born here.

If it has to end, I’ll accept it, but it won’t be an easy departure.”

It now appears likely that Dubravka will join Al-Shabab.

According to Aawsat Sport, “Newcastle United have asked Al-Shabab to allow Dubravka to stay until the match against Arsenal on Tuesday before he departs.”

Howe spoke highly of Dubravka, saying: “We wouldn’t want him to leave, but we have to respect and understand his wishes.

It’s not as straightforward as people might think.

Martin’s contract situation adds another layer to this. He’s out of contract in the summer, which changes the dynamic.

“He has been fully committed and outstanding in his professionalism.

Considering he hadn’t played much football before returning to the team, he’s handled the situation admirably.”

Should the timeline for Dubravka’s departure hold, Newcastle may field Odysseas Vlachodimos or John Ruddy in the FA Cup third round against Bromley.

Meanwhile, there’s speculation that Nick Pope could return for the match against Wolves later this month.

Pope, recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him during the festive period, has resumed light training at Benton.
