Sky Pundit Questions Everton’s Decision to Overlook Ipswich Star

The Blues secured the loan signing of Armando Broja after Ipswich pulled out of a deal for the Chelsea forward (Daily Mail, 31 August).

However, Broja has struggled with injuries at Everton, while Liam Delap has excelled at Ipswich, scoring eight goals in 19 Premier League matches since joining from Manchester City.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (6 January, 12:14 pm), Neil Warnock criticized Everton’s recruitment strategy, stating: “They brought in Broja, who was injured.

Why would you sign a player who’s injured when there’s pressure on you? Another strange signing. Why didn’t they look at Liam Delap?”

Can Armando Broja Turn Things Around at Everton?

It seems unlikely that Everton will exercise their option to buy Broja from Chelsea.

The 23-year-old has been plagued by injuries during his time at Goodison Park, leaving the 1-0 loss to Bournemouth after 30 minutes due to another setback.

That match marked only his second start since joining the club, and time is running out for him to make an impact.

With both Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling to score, Broja could have had a genuine opportunity to establish himself in the starting XI if he had remained fit.

However, his chances may dwindle further as Everton looks to strengthen their attack during the January transfer window.

Criticism of the club for not pursuing Delap seems misplaced. Delap cost Ipswich £20 million, whereas Broja arrived on loan.

Hindsight reveals Delap’s success, but no one could have predicted the former Manchester City youth player’s impressive form.
