Everton Open Fresh Talks to Re-Sign Striker Sold in 2023 – Report

David Moyes is reportedly seeking to strengthen his attack in the coming weeks, with Everton once again targeting Leicester City striker Tom Cannon, according to a report on 15 January.

The Toffees have engaged in discussions over the Irish forward in the past 24 hours following the early termination of his loan spell at Stoke City.

However, a return to the Championship appears more likely for Cannon at this stage.

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy does not consider Cannon part of his plans and is prepared to sanction the striker’s departure in the near future.

Cannon, who came through Everton’s youth system, joined Leicester permanently in 2023 after struggling for game time at the Merseyside club.

At the time, the move seemed logical as Everton opted to cash in on the forward.

Now, Everton are evidently in need of a new striker following injuries to their key attacking options.

Armando Broja was sidelined during their 2-0 FA Cup victory over Peterborough, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin also missed the match. It remains uncertain when Calvert-Lewin will be available again.

Though Beto scored in the FA Cup match, the Guinean has struggled with inconsistency throughout his time at Goodison Park.

Cannon has showcased his potential during his loan spell at Stoke City, raising interest in his return to Everton.

Whether the Blues can secure a deal for him remains to be seen, but adding Cannon to their squad could provide a much-needed boost to Moyes’ forward line.
