“Understand…” – Journalist Provides Update on Everton’s Interest in 23/24 League Winner
Everton Express Interest in Signing Sporting CP Winger Marcus Edwards, Reports Jaque Talbot

Journalist, previously featured in The Guardian, reported on 21 January via his X account that Everton are interested in 26-year-old Marcus Edwards, a product of Tottenham’s academy.
The Englishman has just 18 months remaining on his current contract with Sporting CP, having been with the Portuguese club since January 2022, making him a potential target for the Toffees.
“Understand Everton have inquired after Marcus Edwards of Sporting CP. The 26-year-old has just 18 months left on his deal at the Estadio Jose Alvalade,” the journalist wrote.

Could Everton Secure Marcus Edwards?
Since leaving Tottenham in September 2019, Edwards’ career has been eventful.
He joined Vitória de Guimarães, where he netted 20 goals in 95 appearances, catching the attention of Sporting CP.
At Sporting, he plays alongside Viktor Gyökeres, who boasts 22 league goals this season, contributing to the club’s league-winning campaign last year.
While Gyökeres has received much of the spotlight, Edwards has been a vital contributor, showcasing his talent as part of a cohesive team.
The London-born winger has recorded an impressive 24 goals and 26 assists in 120 appearances for Sporting.
However, his playing time has significantly decreased this season, starting just one Liga Portugal match.
Players like Trincão, Conrad Harder, and Geovany Quenda have been preferred, which may prompt Edwards to consider an exit.
Capable of operating on either flank, Edwards could be a valuable addition to David Moyes’ squad, particularly as Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom have yet to make a significant impact on the right wing. His versatility and experience could strengthen Everton’s attack.
Sporting may consider cashing in on Edwards given his contract situation. With only 18 months remaining, the club risks losing him on a free transfer next summer, making this an opportune time for Everton to strike a deal.
