Dane Scarlett Recalled to Tottenham but Unlikely to Stay Long-Term
Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on their official website on Monday, 20 January, that Dane Scarlett had been recalled from his season-long loan at Oxford United.
The decision was described as a “risk” by some.
This move sparked concerns among fans, with some speculating that chairman Daniel Levy intended to bring Scarlett back as a temporary solution for Ange Postecoglou amidst the club’s injury crisis.
However, Alasdair Gold reported on X (20 January) that Scarlett is likely to be loaned out again before the January transfer window closes.
Wrexham, currently performing well in League One, has been mentioned as a possible destination.
John Wenham, owner of Lilywhite Rose, told Tottenham News in an exclusive interview that Scarlett is likely already in discussions with another club.
“It will definitely be another loan for Scarlett,” Wenham stated.
“The key is finding a club where he will get consistent game time. I’m pleased Spurs acted quickly after his game time at Oxford declined following their managerial change.
They didn’t just sit on the situation and were proactive in recalling him. I’m confident he’s already in talks to secure another loan move.”
Scarlett is expected to leave Tottenham again on loan before the 3 February deadline, and this next spell could be crucial for his development.
The 20-year-old striker has had previous loan stints at Portsmouth, Ipswich Town, and, most recently, Oxford United, but with limited success.
Despite these setbacks, his youth leaves room for growth and an opportunity to impress both Postecoglou and the Spurs community.
