Liverpool has turned down a €17.5 million offer from Nottingham Forest for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher on the final day of the January transfer window. Despite Forest’s position at 16th in the Premier League, with a precarious two-point gap from the relegation zone and a conceding record of 40 goals in 22 league games, the bid did not meet Liverpool’s approval.
Although Kelleher could have been a valuable addition for Forest in their bid to secure a stronger defensive stance for the remainder of the season, Liverpool is determined to retain the goalkeeper at least until the summer. Despite Forest’s notable activity in the transfer window, particularly in a relatively subdued period, there seems to be no imminent deal, according to reports from The Daily Mail.
As a consolation for Kelleher, Liverpool plans to utilize him more in Europa League matches and in the League Cup final against Chelsea. Manager Jürgen Klopp acknowledged Kelleher’s abilities, stating, “Caoimhin is a top, top goalie, and when Ali is fit, then he doesn’t have a lot of games. I want to give him desperately the opportunity to play. This competition I told Alisson before the season, two years ago actually… that’s how it works (it’s Kelleher’s competition).”
On a separate note, in Scottish football, Ireland forward Adam Idah is on the verge of securing a loan move to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic. Despite former Norwich City and Celtic star Chris Sutton expressing reservations about the move, citing potential challenges for Idah in Glasgow, the forward, with seven goals for Norwich this season, is poised for a new chapter in his career with the Scottish club.
