If the reports are accurate, Tottenham are in a strong financial position, with funds expected to be available for Johan Lange and his transfer team.

However, it is fair to question whether the current decision-makers can execute the kind of transfer window Spurs need to truly improve.

Tottenham made solid acquisitions in January, bringing in Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso, and Mathys Tel.

Yet, none of these signings have significantly strengthened their starting eleven.

While the club’s staff are confident that Tel will eventually succeed in North London, from an outsider’s perspective, it appears that Spurs have once again invested heavily in players who, at best, maintain the squad’s current level rather than elevating it.

River Plate Determined to Sign Alejo Véliz Before Club World Cup

That said, Tottenham may have an opportunity to recoup funds from a signing that has yet to prove successful.

In 2023, Spurs spent £13 million to bring Alejo Véliz from Rosario Central, viewing him as a long-term prospect.

However, at 21 years old, it seems unlikely that he will provide genuine competition for Dominic Solanke, despite making progress on loan in Spain.

Now, according to Argentinian outlet River Noticias, River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo is eager to sign Véliz ahead of this summer’s Club World Cup.

Véliz is reportedly of “great interest” to River Plate, with Gallardo believing the young striker could be the missing piece in their attack.

From Tottenham’s perspective, there would surely be an interest in negotiating a deal, as Véliz does not currently appear to be part of the club’s immediate first-team plans.

Véliz’s Exit Could Make Room for Dane Scarlett

According to reports, Ange Postecoglou will evaluate Véliz in pre-season, along with other returning loanees.

Right now, Tottenham’s striker hierarchy sees Solanke as the first-choice forward, with Richarlison, Tel, and Son Heung-min all capable of playing centrally.

Although Richarlison could leave this summer, the club has plans to integrate another young striker into the squad.

Postecoglou intends to give Dane Scarlett more opportunities next season, which raises further questions about Véliz’s role in the team.

With limited chances for game time, it is difficult to see how Véliz would fit into Spurs’ long-term plans.

As a result, River Plate’s interest in signing him could be a welcome development—provided the reports are accurate.
