Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Surprising Criticism of David Moyes

Ratcliffe has drawn comparisons between Manchester United and Everton’s salary expenditures, despite United spending £99 million more per year.

Given that United are just one point ahead of Everton in the table, his remarks seem questionable, especially considering his own club’s struggles.

Speaking to The Times, Ratcliffe criticized the decision to appoint Moyes as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at United.

“Look, I like David Moyes, and I think he’s a really good manager, but to go from Sir Alex Ferguson to Moyes is not where I would have gone,” Ratcliffe said.

“Moyes stepped into the shoes of Ferguson, who won the Premier League 13 times and the Champions League twice, and then you’re handing the reins to someone who had never managed big players or won anything.

He doesn’t necessarily have the personality to command that dressing room.”

These comments came just hours after Moyes was named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for February, highlighting the irony of Ratcliffe’s critique.

Given United’s ongoing struggles, Ratcliffe might be better off avoiding criticism of other managers, especially one who has vastly outperformed expectations.

Moyes’ Success Compared to Ruben Amorim

While Ratcliffe admitted he wouldn’t have appointed Moyes back in 2013, he may regret not considering him for United’s managerial vacancy in November.

Since January, Moyes has recorded just one fewer Premier League victory than Ruben Amorim, despite the latter having managed eight more games in the league.

As Everton prepare for their upcoming fixture, Moyes is also motivated to prove West Ham wrong after they parted ways with him last year.

Despite Ratcliffe’s criticism, Moyes seems unlikely to be bothered.

However, the comments do come across as disrespectful toward a manager who is currently achieving more success than United’s own leadership.
