West Ham set to bid £29.5m for striker as Sullivan remains ‘determined’ to secure signing – report

West Ham United have struggled in attack this season, scoring just 33 Premier League goals—one of the lowest tallies in the division.

Despite sitting comfortably 17 points above the relegation zone, their lack of firepower has been evident, with Wolves, who are a place below them, netting seven more goals.

With little left to play for in their final 10 matches, manager Graham Potter now has the opportunity to focus on the upcoming summer transfer window.

After last summer’s inconsistent recruitment strategy led to the departures of both Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui, Potter and recruitment chief Kyle Macauley are determined to address the team’s most urgent needs.

West Ham Target £29.5m Mikautadze to Solve Striker Issue

The Hammers are set to prioritize signing a new striker, and reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes (March 14) suggest they have identified Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze as their top target.

The 24-year-old Georgian international has impressed this season, recording 12 goals and six assists in 36 appearances.

As a result, Lyon have placed a £29.5 million valuation on him, a figure they are unwilling to negotiate.

However, West Ham’s board is prepared to meet that price in an attempt to secure his services, with a Premier League move looking increasingly likely.

West Ham Must Prioritize Mikautadze’s Signing

Given last summer’s recruitment missteps under Steidten and Lopetegui, West Ham must be more strategic in their signings this time around.

It is evident that their biggest issue remains up front, where they have struggled to find a long-term solution since Michail Antonio’s arrival in 2015.

Last summer’s attempt to address this problem—signing Niclas Füllkrug—has failed to pay off.

Persistent injuries have limited the German international to just nine appearances, including only three starts, with two goals to his name.

His struggles have left Potter with a glaring void in attack.

Meanwhile, Antonio’s own long-term injury is expected to keep him sidelined well into next season.

Although Brighton’s Evan Ferguson arrived on loan to provide reinforcement, he has yet to find the net in West Ham colors.

Mikautadze, who starred at Euro 2024 and has continued to shine in Ligue 1, presents a different profile compared to Füllkrug.

With his best years still ahead of him, he could finally provide the consistent goal-scoring presence the Hammers have lacked for nearly a decade.

Securing his signature should be a top priority for West Ham this summer.
