Derby Boss Had Concerns About Everton’s Harrison Armstrong, But He’s Just Achieved Something ‘Phenomenal’

Teenager Harrison Armstrong made his first-team debut for Everton earlier this season and went on to make several appearances under Sean Dyche.

Seeking more senior football experience, he secured a loan move to Derby County in January, joining their battle against Championship relegation.

His arrival coincided with managerial turmoil, as Paul Warne was sacked before Armstrong even stepped onto the pitch.

However, the coaching change did not hinder him, as new boss John Eustace has given him significant playing time.

Armstrong particularly stood out in Derby’s recent match against Plymouth Argyle, where he caught the eye once again.

The young midfielder had already impressed during his full Derby debut against Middlesbrough, and his strong performances have continued.

Against Plymouth, he netted his first senior goal, earning praise from fans on social media.

Eustace also spoke highly of Armstrong, admitting he was surprised by how well the teenager handled his third game in a week. Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel, he said:

“Touch of class from H [Armstrong], for a just-turned 18-year-old.

The way he is maturing into a really good player is very pleasing. There’s still a lot of hard work ahead.

I was a little bit worried for him and Tommo [Liam Thompson]; third game in a week, and the effort they put in the last two games was phenomenal. I am delighted for H.

Still a lot of work to go with the boy, but he is doing well.”

Armstrong’s Potential Everton Breakthrough in 2025/26

Armstrong has already experienced first-team football at Everton, and if he continues his development at this pace, he could be a regular squad member next season.

Eustace has repeatedly praised Armstrong’s maturity and contributions, emphasizing that Derby are ‘fortunate’ to have him.

This regular exposure to senior football is an encouraging sign for Everton, as it ensures he is getting valuable game time.

Looking ahead, it’s entirely possible that David Moyes will integrate Armstrong into the Everton first team for the 2025/26 season.
