“Former Man United Coach Offers Help to Leicester City After Questioning Van Nistelrooy’s Appointment”

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has offered his assistance to Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, believing the Dutchman lacks the necessary experience for the challenge he faces.

Meulensteen was initially skeptical about van Nistelrooy’s decision to take charge at Leicester, and his concerns have been validated by the club’s struggles.

Since his appointment, van Nistelrooy has managed only seven points from 16 Premier League games, leaving Leicester nine points adrift of safety with just nine matches remaining.

With a 35-year coaching career that includes a spell managing Fulham and six years as assistant coach for the Australian national team, Meulensteen feels that one of van Nistelrooy’s major shortcomings is his limited experience with teams battling relegation.

Throughout his playing career, van Nistelrooy was mostly part of title-challenging sides, which Meulensteen believes puts him at a disadvantage in Leicester’s current predicament.

While van Nistelrooy has repeatedly dismissed concerns about his lack of relegation experience, he has pointed to his early playing days in Dutch football’s second tier with Den Bosch as evidence that he understands adversity.

Speaking to Footy Accumulators, Meulensteen elaborated on his concerns: “As a player, he spent 90 percent of his career in teams that won trophies.

He was always on the front foot, playing for the better side.

Now, he has to find a way out of a completely different situation, which requires a different mindset and approach.”

He added: “When people asked me what I thought of him taking the job, I scratched my head.

I wasn’t sure it was a wise decision. He had no experience, and at Leicester, this is a relegation fight. In the toughest league in the world, you need expertise in that area.”

Meulensteen has also expressed his willingness to support van Nistelrooy if he seeks guidance.

The 61-year-old revealed that van Nistelrooy had previously approached him for advice before leaving PSV Eindhoven, his only other permanent managerial role.

With Leicester’s survival hopes fading, Meulensteen’s experience could be a valuable resource—if van Nistelrooy is willing to accept the offer.
