Leicester Manager Van Nistelrooy Discusses Future Ahead of Newcastle Fixture

Leicester City weren’t exactly thriving in the Premier League before Ruud van Nistelrooy’s appointment, but things have arguably worsened under his leadership.

The stats reveal a decline in form compared to former boss Steve Cooper, leading to growing frustration among fans.

After Wednesday’s defeat to Manchester City, some supporters even called for van Nistelrooy to resign.

Amid mounting pressure and speculation linking the club with alternative managerial options like Danny Rohl and Liam Rosenior, van Nistelrooy has now addressed his future.

Speaking ahead of Leicester’s upcoming clash with Newcastle, he hinted that his position beyond this season remains uncertain.

In a conversation on BBC Radio Leicester’s When You’re Smiling podcast, the 48-year-old admitted there are still crucial conversations to be had.

“We have to find out over the coming weeks,” van Nistelrooy said.

“I came in December, and considering how the winter transfer window unfolded and the challenges ahead, it’s important to be aligned.”

He stressed the urgency of aligning with the Board, saying, “It needs to be sorted yesterday.”

The situation on the pitch has done little to strengthen his case. Leicester have already suffered ten home defeats in the league this season.

If they lose to Newcastle on Monday, it would mark a 141-year low for the club.

However, not all of Leicester’s struggles can be pinned solely on van Nistelrooy.

The team’s squad was built under Cooper, and despite a significant summer outlay, the club only added one player in January — Woyo Coulibaly, who arrived from Parma for £3 million.

This has left van Nistelrooy working with a group that may not fully suit his approach.

Nevertheless, the team’s poor form has raised valid questions about his effectiveness. While he may not be entirely to blame, there’s a sense he could be doing more with the resources available.

As Leicester continue to be linked with other managers, a shake-up may be on the horizon. A full reset could be considered before next season begins — with or without van Nistelrooy at the helm.
