Sources: Newcastle Targeting Goalkeeper Signing Following Major Eddie Howe Revelation

Aaron Ramsdale is expected to leave Southampton, with their relegation to the Championship likely to be confirmed by April 6.

This has piqued the interest of clubs like Newcastle and Leeds ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Football Insider, Leeds are keen to make Ramsdale their first-choice goalkeeper if they secure promotion.

The 26-year-old’s contract with Southampton includes a relegation release clause, valued at around £25 million, which means his departure is imminent.

With Ramsdale set to leave, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe could be interested in reuniting with the former Bournemouth goalkeeper.

Mick Brown, a former scout for Manchester United and Blackburn, revealed that Bournemouth are also interested in signing Ramsdale.

However, Newcastle may have an even greater need for a new goalkeeper.

Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka will be 33 and 36 years old by the end of April, respectively, and despite Dubravka recently signing a new contract amid interest from Saudi Arabia, Newcastle are already planning for long-term replacements.

Sources told Football Insider that despite Ramsdale going through a challenging period in his career, which has seen him fall out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, Howe remains an admirer of the goalkeeper.

With both Dubravka and Pope likely past their prime, Howe sees Ramsdale as the ideal candidate to take over as Newcastle’s number one.

However, financial constraints could pose a challenge to securing the player.

It’s been reported that Newcastle may not be willing to spend the full £25 million release clause for a goalkeeper this summer.

Nevertheless, Ramsdale’s potential availability could make this fee a worthwhile investment, as he is expected to be in high demand.

Ramsdale is not the only England goalkeeper who could join Newcastle next season.

Mick Brown also stated that Burnley’s James Trafford is being considered as a long-term successor to Pope.

Last summer, Newcastle planned to pursue Trafford following Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League, but with Burnley on track for an immediate return, they are unlikely to sell their number one goalkeeper.

With Southampton heading for the Championship, Ramsdale now appears to be a more realistic and affordable target for Newcastle as they look to address their goalkeeper position this summer.
