Ruud van Nistelrooy casts doubt on Leicester City’s future after shifting stance on commitment

Ruud van Nistelrooy has cast uncertainty over his future at Leicester City following a shift in tone regarding his commitment to the role.

The former striker is now at the helm of Leicester’s joint-longest losing streak in league history after Monday night’s 3-0 defeat at home to Newcastle.

Last Thursday, van Nistelrooy insisted he was determined to stay and fight, not flee, as the club teeters on the edge of relegation.

However, his resolve appeared to weaken in his most recent post-match comments.

When asked directly whether he remained committed to the club, van Nistelrooy responded: “The most important thing is the club and these players, that’s what I would say for now.”

Pressed further on whether he intended to continue at the King Power Stadium, he reiterated: “The most important thing is the club and the players, that is my reaction.”

It appears van Nistelrooy is now seeking discussions about his position.

Asked if he’d held any talks with the club’s hierarchy since his previous request for “alignment,” he replied: “It’s clear the most important thing is what’s best for this club and that’s something we also have to discuss.”

Relegation could come as soon as Easter Sunday. While City can’t be mathematically relegated this weekend, a loss against Liverpool or a favorable result for Wolves earlier in the day could seal their fate.

Leicester’s current form is deeply concerning. Not only have they equaled their worst-ever league losing run with eight straight defeats, but they’ve failed to score in any of those matches.

Their last league goal at home came in early December.

“It’s very disappointing,” van Nistelrooy said of the team’s form.

“Speaking for myself, I came here with the intention of pushing the club forward. So far, that hasn’t worked.”
