Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Full Response on Winks, Monga, and His Future in Tense Press Conference

Q: In the programme, you spoke about wanting a performance that honoured the badge. Did your team come close to that tonight?

RvN: “No. That includes myself. When the game is effectively lost after just 34 minutes, I don’t think we delivered that.”

Q: There was a tense atmosphere in the stadium. Is that impacting the players?

RvN: “It’s not just the atmosphere. The run we’re on, the lack of goals—you’ll have the stats and records. It’s affecting all of us. It’s extremely hard to break out of this.”

Q: Are you being cautious with Jeremy Monga, considering the circumstances you’re introducing him into?

RvN: “Today felt like the right moment to give him his debut. At just 15, he showed flashes of his talent. Credit to him and his family—this was a special occasion.”

Q: Previously, you said Monga wouldn’t be considered due to training restrictions. Has something changed?

RvN: “Apparently.”
