21-Year-Old Hints He Has Played His Final Game at Fleetwood Town
Leicester City loanee Brandon Cover has announced that his season has come to an end after his first year in senior football.
Cover, who has been on loan at League Two side Fleetwood Town for the latter part of the season, took to social media this week to confirm he’d played his final match for the club.
The 21-year-old, who can play as a defensive midfielder or right-back, likely sustained an injury during training, as he was listed on the bench for Fleetwood’s recent match, though the club has yet to provide official confirmation.
Cover posted a message on social media, stating, “My season is over now. What a first full season in men’s football.
I’ve improved and learned so much. Onto the next. God willing, more success next season.”
Cover made his senior debut for Leicester City last season under Enzo Maresca and was involved with the first team during Steve Cooper’s pre-season preparations.
He then went on loan to League Two club Port Vale, where he impressed while playing as a right-wing-back, helping Vale in their push for promotion.
However, with Port Vale players returning from injury and concerns about Cover’s role in the second half of the season, Leicester recalled him and loaned him to Fleetwood Town, another League Two side.
His playing time at Fleetwood has been limited, starting four of the 15 matches he has been part of.
In the past seven games, he has been an unused substitute five times, playing just 17 minutes in the other two appearances as Fleetwood fought for a spot in the play-offs.
Cover’s season ends with 27 League Two appearances and two goals, both scored while at Port Vale.
His contract with Leicester City’s duration is unclear, but if it extends beyond this summer, he could potentially join the first-team squad for pre-season, especially with the club’s expected relegation to the Championship.
It’s possible that, like Kasey McAteer, who made the jump to the first team after Leicester’s last drop to the Championship, Cover could be given a chance in the senior squad.
