Eddie Howe was notably absent from the sidelines at St James’ Park during Newcastle United’s impressive win over Manchester United.

The Magpies’ head coach was admitted to hospital on Friday evening after feeling unwell for several days.

Despite his absence, Howe managed to watch the match and sent a congratulatory message to his staff following the final whistle.

Newcastle started brightly, with Sandro Tonali finding the net early to give them the lead.

However, Alejandro Garnacho managed to pull Manchester United level somewhat against the run of play.

But Newcastle came out strongly in the second half and overwhelmed their opponents, with Harvey Barnes netting twice and captain Bruno Guimaraes adding another to secure a comprehensive victory.

Jason Tindall Gives Update on Eddie Howe’s Condition

Jason Tindall, Howe’s trusted assistant, addressed the media in his place and provided an update on the manager’s health after the match.

“Yes, I received a message from Eddie just before heading to the press conference,” Tindall said.

“He congratulated the team on the performance and praised the work everyone put in. He was able to watch the full game, and I know he would have appreciated the effort.”

Tindall added that Howe’s absence was deeply felt by the coaching staff and players alike. “For me personally, he was massively missed.

This is only the second time in about 70 games that we haven’t stood side by side on the touchline.

When your leader isn’t there, it leaves a big void. But credit to the staff and players—they stepped up and filled those shoes.

Eddie is one of the best managers in the game, and I think he’ll be very proud of what the team delivered.”

Tindall had initially expected Howe to be present for the match.

He revealed that the seriousness of Howe’s illness became more apparent later on Friday.

“I found out probably on Saturday morning,” he explained. “Eddie was taken into hospital on Friday evening.

From that point, it became clear it was highly unlikely he’d be able to join us for the match.

He placed his trust in me and the rest of the coaching team to make the right decisions on the day, and thankfully, we managed to do just that.

The players responded incredibly well and were full of good wishes for the manager.”

Uncertainty Over Howe’s Return for Crystal Palace Clash

Newcastle United will return to Premier League action on Wednesday night with a home fixture against Crystal Palace.

A victory could lift them into third place in the standings. However, whether Howe will return in time for that match remains uncertain.

“At this moment, I’m not sure,” Tindall said when asked about Howe’s potential return. “We haven’t spoken on the phone in a couple of days.

I was pleased to receive his message after the game, and hopefully the result lifted his spirits.”

He concluded, “I haven’t had the chance to talk to him properly.

We exchanged texts just before I spoke to the media. If there’s an update on his condition, I’m sure everyone will find out soon enough.”
