Pundit Urges Leicester City on How to Handle Jamie Vardy’s Contract Situation

Leicester City must consider a succession plan for Jamie Vardy, though keeping him for another season could still be beneficial.

That’s the view of EFL pundit and former Nottingham Forest and Coventry City midfielder David Prutton, who has commended Vardy’s longevity and impact at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy, who has been a central figure at the club since 2012, has played a pivotal role in Leicester’s most historic moments.

However, with his contract set to expire this summer and the club potentially facing a second relegation in three seasons, his future remains uncertain.

Speaking to Football League World, Prutton said: “Jamie Vardy — should he stay at Leicester? It depends on various factors: the financial terms and how he would be utilised in a likely Championship campaign next season.

He proved during their last stint in the second tier that he can still be highly effective.”

Prutton acknowledged the tough Premier League season Leicester have endured, citing their inconsistency as a major issue.

“They’ve been frustrated, surrendered at times, but also shown fight — that inconsistency is what leaves a team in the bottom three,” he explained.

Despite the struggles, Prutton praised Vardy’s leadership and presence.

“The pressure and expectation he carries from the club and fans, he’s handled that brilliantly. He’s unquestionably among Leicester’s all-time greats.”

He added, “If Vardy chooses to go again next season, it could still be a positive move.

While a succession plan is necessary at some point, having someone with his personality and influence around the club would be a good thing.”
