Andoni Iraola Still a Contender for Tottenham Job Despite Bournemouth Contract Talks
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to part ways with Ange Postecoglou, even if the team goes on to win the Europa League this season.
The North London side has reached the semi-finals of the competition, but that might not be enough to save the Australian manager’s job.
According to Football Insider (18 April), Bournemouth have responded by offering their manager Andoni Iraola a new contract in an effort to prevent him from joining Spurs as a potential replacement for Postecoglou.
Iraola, 42, remains under contract at the Vitality Stadium until June 2026 and is believed to be open to staying longer with the south coast club.
Despite this, football finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider that he would be shocked if Iraola turned down a managerial offer from Tottenham.
Borson strongly believes Postecoglou’s departure is inevitable, regardless of Spurs’ performance in the Europa League over the coming weeks.
“We’ll know soon what’s happening with Postecoglou,” Borson said. “Even if he wins the Europa League, I think they’ll still make a change.
I’d be surprised if Iraola turned down Spurs if they offered him the job.
That said, he may not be the main candidate. Perhaps he’s been informed of that, and that’s why it’s being suggested he’s staying at Bournemouth.”
Borson added that it would be highly unlikely for any Bournemouth manager to reject an opportunity to manage Tottenham, regardless of how well the Cherries have performed this season.
Currently, Spurs sit a disappointing 15th in the Premier League table, while Bournemouth are enjoying a strong campaign in eighth place, pushing for European qualification.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are also preparing for the future by targeting young talent.
Football Insider (17 April) reported that the club is monitoring 17-year-old Gambian forward Gibril Sima, who plays for Dutch Lions in the Gambian top flight.
Sima has drawn comparisons to former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry due to his style of play and has caught the attention of several European clubs.
Spurs are now among those interested in securing his signature.
