Ruud van Nistelrooy is unlikely to remain as Leicester City manager next season, despite being under contract until 2027.

Following the club’s relegation on Sunday, the Dutchman urged Leicester’s hierarchy to make a swift decision regarding their plans, as uncertainty looms over his future.

Van Nistelrooy is expected to meet with club executives this week, but according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, Leicester face a complex dilemma.

Dorsett posted on social media that although Van Nistelrooy is not expected to stay in charge beyond this season, he is unwilling to resign without compensation.

Sacking him now could lead to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) complications in the current financial year.

As a result, the club may opt to keep him on for the final three Premier League matches to avoid breaching PSR regulations.

These financial obligations are already strained by severance payments owed to former manager Steve Cooper and his coaching staff, who were dismissed in November.

Removing Van Nistelrooy before the end of June could further exacerbate the situation.

The former Manchester United striker has expressed his desire for Leicester to begin preparing immediately for next season in the Championship—their second in three years.

Speaking after the loss that sealed their relegation, he told Sky Sports: “We have to use this time to get better. The club will continue, and it is my job to put the club in the best place possible.”

When asked about the timing of the decision regarding his future, he responded: “I hope soon.

The new season starts very soon and preparation needs to start to move forward.”

Meanwhile, Leicester are already exploring potential replacements.

Those reportedly under consideration include England U21 manager Lee Carsley, Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl, and recently dismissed Southampton manager Russell Martin.
