Newcastle Firm on Keeping Isak Despite Ongoing Transfer Rumors
These days, it seems like not a day goes by without Alexander Isak being linked to Liverpool, with varying degrees of credibility behind each rumor.
Following Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup triumph, chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan reportedly instructed the club’s hierarchy to reject any bids for Isak.
While Newcastle were likely to do that anyway, the chairman’s backing reinforces their stance.
Isak is seen as a cornerstone for Newcastle’s future. The club’s ambition is to build around him, not to cash in on his value. Selling him simply isn’t on the agenda.
Transfer insider Steve Kay, speaking on the KS1 TV podcast and writing for Anfield Watch, revealed that Liverpool could face significant obstacles in any pursuit of the Swedish striker.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if those [Liverpool] contracts are already done,” Kay noted. “But if they had to bring in Isak and pay what Newcastle want, I’d question if those contracts would’ve gone through.”
He added that Newcastle’s position is firm, comparing the situation to Harry Kane’s past transfer saga, suggesting they won’t let Isak go, even if he expresses a desire to leave.
Even if Newcastle were to miss out on Champions League qualification, Kay says the club would still refuse to sell: “I’ve heard Newcastle are going to put the block on it, even if they drop out.”
A lot of speculation surrounding Isak’s future was rooted in doubts over Newcastle’s European qualification.
While Champions League participation isn’t certain, the club has already secured European football and lifted a trophy this season. That success could be enough to satisfy any ambitions Isak may have elsewhere.
Regardless of their final league position, however, Newcastle appear determined to keep hold of their star striker.
As Kay emphasized, the club’s intent to block any potential sale seems unaffected by European qualification. For now, Isak remains a central figure in their plans.
