An “unbelievable” manager with two Premier League promotions on his résumé is now being considered by Leicester City as a replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy, according to former scout Mick Brown.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s tenure at Leicester appears to be drawing to a close.
The Foxes have shown little resistance in their fight against relegation, managing just 18 points all season.
The situation has worsened under Van Nistelrooy’s leadership, with his performance raising significant concerns.
Since taking over at the King Power Stadium, the Dutchman has averaged just 0.48 points per game.
As a result, his departure at the end of the season seems increasingly inevitable. The club has already begun drawing up a list of potential successors.
Leading the shortlist is former Southampton manager Russell Martin, who guided the Saints back to the Premier League last season.
Martin, aged 39, is reportedly open to the Leicester job should an offer be made. Another name being considered is Sheffield Wednesday’s head coach Danny Rohl.
Mick Brown, speaking to Football Insider, revealed that Martin is just one of several names on Leicester’s radar. Brown stated, “Ruud is going to be sacked, there’s no doubt.
I wasn’t impressed by Russell Martin in the Premier League, but he played a big role in Southampton’s promotion. That’s the kind of manager Leicester wants—someone who can get them back up straight away.”
Brown also mentioned that Sean Dyche, currently without a role following his time at Everton, is among the names being discussed.
“There are a few names on their list. Sean Dyche is one I’ve heard. But it sounds like Martin is the leading candidate at the moment,” he added.
Dyche, who previously guided Burnley to Premier League promotion in both the 2013–14 and 2015–16 seasons, is seen as someone who could help Leicester bounce back immediately.
While David Moyes’ positive impact at Everton since replacing Dyche might suggest Dyche isn’t suited for long-term rebuilding, his credentials in gaining promotion are strong.
Kieran Trippier, a former Burnley player, once praised Dyche as an “unbelievable manager,” adding credibility to his reputation.
With his track record and experience, Dyche could be a logical fit for a club seeking a swift return to the top flight.
Meanwhile, criticism of Van Nistelrooy has been mounting.
Former Leicester winger Matt Piper recently voiced his frustration, not just with the manager but also with the players’ attitude and lack of determination.
“This season, they are not good enough,” said Piper. “There is no fight, no determination, no desire to wear the shirt, and no confidence.
The manager goes missing in the dugout. There are major problems at this club—it’s just not good enough.”
