Leicester City must undergo significant changes at the King Power Stadium this summer but are also expected to mount a serious promotion challenge next season.

That’s the view of former striker Brian Deane, who has reflected on the club’s recent relegation and the problems that led to it.

Their drop to the Championship was confirmed two weeks ago, and although they secured a 2-0 win against already-relegated Southampton last Saturday, it marked just their second clean sheet of the season.

Alongside defensive issues, Leicester have also endured a record-breaking number of home matches without scoring and have only managed to collect 21 points with three games remaining.

With Leicester preparing for their second Championship campaign in three seasons, Deane emphasized that promotion must be the clear goal. “Leicester is a big club at this level.

They can’t afford to fade away. There’s been significant investment — now they need to refresh the squad and generate funds to build again. But we know how tough that league is, and it’s all about getting the balance right.”

Deane, who played under managers Dave Bassett and Micky Adams during his time at the club, also raised concerns about Leicester’s ambition and direction in recent years, implying that a lack of clear vision has contributed to their downfall.
